Recent Cabinet Paper Granting a Special Allowance to Executive Grade Officers
Dear Colleague,
We are quite disappointed by the above move which has totally sidelined specialists serving the department of health services.
This has deepened the crisis as it further widens the gap in salary anomalies between comparable medical and non-medical grades.
We have staged our strongest protest and issued a press release (attached herewith).
We are in the process of arranging a meeting with the Minister of Health to discuss this issue.
We are closely monitoring the progress of this ad-hoc move.
Kind regards,
Dr L A Ranasinghe
President

AMS MET THE MINISTER OF HEALTH
Discussion with Hon. Minister @ Ministry of Health – 29.01.2019
AMS had a very fruitful meeting with the Hon. Minister of Health on
29th of January 2019. The following matters were discussed.
Membership of the Association of Medical Specialists
Membership of the Association of Medical Specialists
The Association of Medical Specialists would like to invite you to become a member of our organization, which is a prestigious trade union of medical specialists working in the public sector with no political affiliations.
We wish to place on record that the landmark achievement of the specialist registry is a victory for all the medical specialists and the patients in this country, and the AMS worked tirelessly over the past 4 years to achieve this objective.
Further, the AMS has been successful in getting schools for the children of our members during the past 3 years, in addition to its contribution in resolving many issues in the health sector.
The other trade unions in the health sector failed to get due benefits for the medical specialists and it is disappointing to note that the specialists and the grade medical officers are still paid the same amount as DAT allowance.
Hence, we earnestly request you to become a member of the AMS to safeguard the privileges, status and the dignity of the medical specialists.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Dr R P Dayasena
Secretary
